On Monday, September 15, the nationally significant Swimming Nation Program (ÚNP) will also begin at the Eissmann Municipal Swimming Pool in Nyíregyháza.
The aim of the initiative is to make safe swimming accessible to all children from kindergarten age up to the second grade of elementary school.
The ÚNP is a comprehensive, complex program that covers the educational, infrastructural, professional, and methodological requirements of swimming instruction. Its long-term goal is to encourage children to pursue a healthy lifestyle, and its medium-term goal is to ensure that all primary school children become confident swimmers, regardless of their age, gender, identity, social or physical situation.
The Hungarian Swimming Association launched the program in 2018 with the involvement of a team of experts, which included sports professionals as well as experts in construction, transportation planning, law, operations, and education policy. As a result, the program is not only well thought out from a sports perspective, but also from a social and infrastructural point of view, and is sustainable in the long term.
The Swimming Nation Program in Nyíregyháza also covers three age groups:
kindergarten senior group – 36 hours of swimming lessons,
elementary school 1st grade – 36 hours of swimming lessons,
elementary school 2nd grade – 36 hours of swimming lessons.
This means that a total of 108 × 45 minutes of swimming lessons are provided for each child over the course of three years.
Joining the national initiative, the Nyíregyháza Municipal Swimming Pool also plays an important role in ensuring that children living in the city experience the joy of movement and move safely in the water.
It is important to emphasize that the Swimming Nation Program does not affect the regular swimming schedule for the general public – the swimming pool will welcome guests with its usual opening hours and services.
