On Thursday, 17 April, the Eissmann Municipal Swimming Pool in Nyíregyháza hosted the fourth round of the U13 Girls (Talent Development) THG Championship, with 18 teams participating. The Girls' THG Championships are often referred to as the "forerunner" of the National Championships - the Nyíregyháza youngsters have been competing in this series for five years.
For a long time they were part of the Northern Region team, but this year the Aqua Sport Association of Nyíregyháza started with their own team. This was the first time that the girls had the chance to prove themselves on home soil.
Thanks to the special arrangement, all the matches were played in one day, as the fights were played on two courts in parallel. Aqua SE first played against Budapest Region and then took to the pool against Szeged.
The spectators were also able to watch the age-group teams of several big names, including UVSE, FTC, DFVE, KSI, BVSC and Szolnok.
In addition to the club teams, four regional teams - East, West, North and Budapest regions - also took part in the tournament, giving clubs with fewer girls players available the opportunity to compete.
The event was also attended by Attila Mihók, former women's national captain, who has been supervising the girls' THG championship for many years within the Hungarian Water Polo Federation.
To sum up: the matches were played on two courts, the atmosphere was great and the field was very strong. The matches started at 9:30 in the morning - there has never been a junior event of this volume in our city before - informed Roland Szakács, President of the Aqua Sport Association.
